During this extraordinary tour, we will visit many of the attractions the South-North route has to offer, but avoid taking the main tourist routes.
We cover about 5.500 km of which 2.000 km are on unsurfaced roads. There is very little deep sand. Riders should, however, be reasonably experienced, espcieally when a pillion rider is on board.
We leave Castlemaine and travel via the Gariwerd - Grampians National Park to Horsham. From there we will head north-west through the breath-taking landscapes of the Flinders Ranges National Park in South Australia and via Birdsville and Oodnadatta tracks to Coober Pedy. We will have our first day off to have enough time to explore this fascinating opal mining town, it's unusual residents and it's surroundings. A trip to the Breakaways - set to one of the Mad Max movies, the dog fence - the longest fence of the world, or the world's only golf course without any grass should be top of your list today.
From Coober Pedy we take the Oodnadatta track to Marly from where we will head north to the famous Ayers Rock - Uluru. Here we will have our second day off which will give you enough time to explore the Rock and its surroundings. There are lots of things to see and do. What about a visit of the Aboriginal Information Centre, a guided walk around the Rock, a hiking trip in Kata Tjuta, a helicopter scenic flight or perhaps sunset ballooning?
After Uluru we will straight head to the next highlight: Kings Canyon. We will stay overnight at Kings Creek Station. From there we will go to Alice Springs - the heart of the outback. We will have one day off here, too. This will give you plenty of time to explore The Alice and all her attractions. Standley Chasm, Simpsons Gap should be top of your list as well as a visit of the Royal flying Doctor Service, the Alice Springs Desert Park oder just some relaxing hours at the pool.
After a well deserved rest we take the little travelled Tanami Track to Halls Creek passed the Southern Kimberleys into Western Australia. We stop at Wolfe Crater, a huge meteorite crater. It is the biggest crater in Australia, and you will get an idea of what can happen when the next meteorite might be hitting earth.
An optional extra is to take a scenic flight over the recently opened Purnululu - Bungle Bungle National Park. An enormous area, full of strange dome-shaped rock formations: an image that will stay in your mind forever….. cameras a must! We continue to Kununurra, an oasis in this harsh country. Here we enjoy a day off and a boat trip to the gorges.
The next day we head back into the Northern Territory towards Katherine and will pitch our tents at the picturesque Edith Falls.

The last leg brings us to Darwin in the tropical north. Here, your 3 weeks Australia adventure ends.
